Our Story

Livability Media: A Division of Journal Communications

Find the good— and praise it.

Livability Media is a full-service media and content marketing company helping chambers of commerce and economic development organizations reach talent, businesses and more with the unique stories of their communities.

Our parent company Journal Communications began a few decades ago creating high-quality print publications. Alex Haley, author of “Roots,” was one of the founders. The phrase “Find the good – and praise it” was printed at the bottom of his pale yellow personal stationery. It predated his connection to Journal Communications, but today – it’s our motto!

Almost 15 years ago, we developed Livability Media as the part of our brand dedicated to telling the stories of cities, regions and states, and we launched our nationally recognized Livability.com site as its digital component. We’re not only experts on what makes our nation’s small to mid-sized cities great places to live, but on how communities can effectively market themselves to businesses and talent alike.

Our turn-key content services – both print and digital – can help you with storytelling and extending your reach to people looking to move, retire to or work remotely from a new place. In addition to our full publishing print programs, we leverage the power of Livability.com to attract talent, investment and tourism for our clients.

Through exclusive research and original content, Livability.com reaches millions of site visitors each year with content examining affordability, cultural amenities, talent attraction and more, celebrating the accomplishments of cities through various rankings like our annual Top 100 Best Places to Live and articles exploring the who, what, why and how behind the “where.”
